Inaugural Address by Dr. Dennis C. Lim
When my term as APO president ended last May 31, 2024, I thought I could already relax and enjoy my life being a husband to my wife, a father to my kids, an orthodontist to my patients and a professor to my students. However, that was not the case. I was tasked to head the Philippine Board of Orthodontics, which I have been a member of since 2008.
Being the chairperson of PBO is equally hard as being the president of APO, as I have to preserve the legacy of all our past PBO chairpersons. Our outgoing chairperson of PBO, Dr. Rachel Yang-Lim, and her executive council really did a wonderful job. I hope I can replicate what Dr. Rachel Yang Lim and her team accomplished for the past years. With the help of all my PBO and APO family, I hope I can perform my duties well.
To all our APO members, I encourage all of you to take the phase 3 and 4 PBO exams, and be a diplomate of PBO. Taking the PBO phase 3 and 4 examinations will eventually earn you a fellow in the Association of Philippine Orthodontists and diplomate of Philippine Board of Orthodontics. As a fellow or diplomate, the Professional Regulation Commission will recognize you as a specialist in the field of orthodontics, and you will be given a professional qualification framework of level 7 or 8 by the PRC.
APO will soon be given a certificate of accreditation as a specialty society of PRC, and this is your opportunity to be recognized as a specialist. I know we have a lot of members who are very good orthodontists and have extremely good finished cases. I encourage you to please take the challenge. Let’s not stop furthering our crafts, but continue to be the best that we can be. To the APO president, Dr. Joanne Marañon, rest assured that PBO, an examining body of APO, will always be working closely with APO. Thank you and let us all support APO and PBO.
