The past two years have seen the PBO under my helm. It has been such an honor, and I am very grateful to everyone who has generously given me their support, especially the PBO officers and committee heads.
These past years have seen the PBO being active in global events such as the World Federation of Orthodontist and the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society, with whom the PBO and the APO have committed to be active participants. We were fortunate to have Dr. Roberto Justus, then president of the WFO give a seminar to the APO members. Recently, our very own Dr. Roberto Tan was elected as the Secretary General of the APOS, Dr. Crissie Santayana was conferred the honorary fellowship of the APOS, and the Dr. Crissie Santayana Award – for the 2nd Best Oral Research Presentation was created at the first APOS Residents Forum. Truly, our PBO diplomates and APO members have much to share in the international setting.
The coming years are even more exciting as we see the various dental specialists come together and focus on university accreditation and the importance of board certification. The Philippine Board of Orthodontics, from the beginning, has desired to uplift the standards of postgraduate orthodontic education in the Philippines.
As I leave the PBO under a new leadership, I continue to encourage all the universities with orthodontic programs to be PBO-Accredited, and I urge all orthodontists who are not yet part of the PBO to take the challenge and be board certified.
I wish our new PBO Chair, Dr. Teresa Goduco, all the best in continuing the legacy of the PBO. Let us all give her our support.
Once again, thank you.
